2.0 adoption in the enterprise webinars, good stuff

Council around adoption of enterprise2.0 initiativesYesterday I attended the 2.0 adoption in the Enterprise ‘after’ webinar and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of information. After the webinar I was wondering why I liked the webinar so much and this morning it hit me: the presenters we’re speaking from their own experiences. It was no b****t story by some consultant who feels enterprise2.0 is hot and needs to say something about it. So for you’ll enterprise2.0 consultants out there, no more theoretical stories before you’ve proven you actually have gotten your hands dirty!

The split of enterprise social software user adoption

I totally agree with Ross Mayfield and Michael Idinopulos; to get people using social software you should embed social software (Human Software as we like to call it at e-office) in their day-to-day work. Every project we do with enterprise social software is about finding ways to replace the existing process this software or use it in such a way that people can do their work more easily. For example replace the external project site with wiki’s and blogs and co-author a tender in a wiki instead of e-mailing the document in progress to the 5 authors.

The suites we typically use consist mostly of the following parts; profiles, blogs, wiki’s, filesharing, social bookmarking, communities, activities (which is Lotus Connections specific). What we found out during projects is that people are a bit overwhelmed by all these possibilities, so we would like to start with a small subset of functionality: profiles, blogs and filesharing for example.

Project evaluations have also taught us that people see the most value in collaboration and embedding enterprise social software in their day-to-day work. This  involves other functionality (wiki’s for example) than organizations like to start with. Hence the enterprise social software adoption split.
